Martley CE Primary School

Located on the B4204 Worcester Road towards the edge of the village, the school benefits from an idylic rural location. Almost opposite and convenient to the Chantry High School and the new Martley Sports Hall the school caters fror pupils from 5 to 11 years of age. At the present time (June 2003) there are 132 students in attendance but up to 147 can be accomodated. The catchment area covers Martley, Wichenford and Kenswick but pupils attend from many other local villages and from the St Johns area of Worcester City.
The current
Primary School was opened on the site in 1974 and a large extension was built
in 1991 to accomodate three more classrooms. Since then, small extensions
have been added along with a mobile classroom introduced in 1997. The
school is well equipped with a large multi-purpose hall, an information and
communication room, which comprises a suite of networked computers and a non-fiction
library, a technology area for cookery and design technology, a withdrawal room
for small group tuition, and five classrooms.
In the grounds the school benefits from a playground, a playing field and an
environmental area. Work is currently taking place to upgrade the outdoor
play facilities providing children with focussed play activities and areas.
The school has been adapted for wheelchair access and toilet facilities have
also been provided for physically disabled adults and children.
The school enjoys taking part in many village events. Strong connections
have been established with St Peters Church, holding special services there,
and using it to support teaching of Religious Education. Links have also
been established with local Businesses and other schools.
