Addendum 3
I would like to report that to April 2008 Martley Memorial Hall has had another successful year, both financially and in its use and service to and by the community. The overall and ongoing financial status of the Hall is very sound due to a great fund raising effort and also grants and donations made available to it.
Bookings for the Hall are on a very strong footing and the much needed regular users seem to keep coming back for more, which is great to see.
The income from the Bar with its much revised stock levels is very welcome, and again thanks must go to DC for his efforts in this department. The regular use of the Bar in the winter months by the Air Rifle Club has also boosted the income in this area.
It is wonderful that the Hall could be fitted with new front doors as a lasting tribute to Mr. Jack Bradley following some fund raising and a very generous donation form the Bradley family. A great deal of improvements and refurbishment are planned for the future, including new toilet fixtures and fittings and also some long overdue development of the bar and club room facilities to make this area more attractive to regular users and also bring more income to the Hall as an extra venue in its own right.
The subject of money always rears its ugly head, but these improvements can only be achieved by the hard work of the committee with their fund-raising ideas and other donations and grants and I must thank all members or their hard work over the past year.
The year ahead will with our continued efforts in fundraising and Hall developments take the Hall forward and maintain it as a central service to the Village and surrounding Parish.

Addendum 4
We are fortunate, as are our youngest members of the community, to have such a school as Martley C of E Primary.
As an LEA Governor I am constantly aware of the commitment made by all the staff of the school, often over and beyond the call of duty, to enable our students to have a happy and caring experience in school as well as experiencing learning of the highest order.
There is nothing backward about our village school – in fact if you go inside there is a real transformation with high-tec interactive whiteboards, and a whole range of equipment and facilities for them to use.
The classrooms and areas for learning such as the IT suite are bright and full of vigour: if only we could lie about our age and go back to enjoy it ourselves!
It is no surprise that the school was recognised nationally for its achievements and in all its OFSTED reports has received high level markings in all areas.
As a Parish Council we should at all times support the aspirations of the school through its Head Teacher Helene Davies, and wish them continuing success in the future.

Addendum 5
The Foundation provides annual post-16 grants to young people resident in Martley and/or attending Martley’s schools.
In the year 2007-2008 the Foundation continues to maintain an excellent level of grant aid, due mainly to its fiscal policies in spite of the general depression in the investments markets.
Martley Parish Council has two representatives on the Committee, which also has representative from the County – Councillor Alwyn Davies, and from the District – Councillor Barbara Williams.
Too often we only read the media interpretation of what young people do or do not do up and down the country, wreaking havoc and discord wherever they go, but up and down Great Britain our students attend Colleges and Universities – and it is a continuing story of achievement in a wide range of professional course and qualifications from diploma to degree and often to post-degree level.
The Foundation also offers support to all the education establishments in Martley so that they can continue to provide a first-class level of provision.
The Committee meets on a regular basis, awarding grants in the Autumn of each year to approximately forty young people and to the local schools, at present over £11,000 annually year-on.
It is hoped that this can continue so that we can offer support to our young people who in turn will become the next generation of professionally trained and qualified adults form our community.
We are indeed fortunate to have such a Foundation for young people in Martley.
