Holding Trustees

The Village Hall needs to appoint “Holding Trustees”.  With the passage of time,  the previous individuals who were holding trustees are no longer available or wish to stand down.   This is a legal position but not one that requires any “hands on” involvement with the hall.

I have had advice from the Charity Commissioners. There are (essentially) 4 options.

·         We can appoint more individuals to take on the Holding Trustee role. We would need to select suitable people from the locality. As and when they moved away, wanted to give up or died we would then have to repeated the procedure. There will be solicitors fees involving in doing the necessary paperwork and legal costs would be incurred  with future changes to the holding trustees.

·         We can appoint the Official Custodian of Trustees to be holding trustee. This is a free service from the charity commission.

·         We can ask the Parish Council to act as the holding trustee. This gives a local dimension which the Official Custodian does not bring. There may be legal costs in setting this up

·         In view of the origins of the hall, (the then vicar and the diocese were involved in setting it up) we can ask the diocese to act as holding trustee

I have summarised them at http://www.doodle.com/axvcpt4xp7wwfx9c   Please use that link to indicate your preference. It would be good to have your views in time for the next committee meeting which is the 20th of this month
