Sheppard relatives

I have been researching my family history and my connection with Martley is as follows

My late mother's maiden name was Sheppard her grandparents were James Sheppard and Eliza Hill who married 1889. I have traced both families back but wondered if there are any descendants still living in Martley?

James and Eliza had 12 children, 4 who died in childhood Florence Eliza: and Edith May both aged 1 year Gladys Lavinia aged 16 and Albert William aged 12

The other children were Bessie: Benjamin: Alice: Beatrice: Arthur: Margaret: Leonard and Edward

Hoping someone can help

Iris

Water Mains Replacement-Latest

From: Fraser Pithie

Subject: Holt Fleet Road - Water Mains Replacement - Deferral

We have now carried out the re-evaluation and this has included us liaising with both our contractors and the highway authority, Worcestershire County Council. Throughout the process we have been mindful of the concerns and issues raised by customers who live in the area and the consequential need for us to undertake any work with the minimisation of disruption to the local environment whilst ensuring the safety of the general public and works personnel alike.

I have considered the results of the re-evaluation, taking particular account of the proposed method of work, its associated level of disruption and the duration/timing for it to take place. Consequently, on balance I am not persuaded that it's appropriate for us to proceed this year.

I have taken this decision in response to the concerns and issues raised by our customers' local to the area as these need to be taken into account.
Severn Trent cares about its customers and that means we care about their environment so it's right for us to proceed with works but only when we can demonstrate an appropriate balance between the desire to minimise the effects upon the local environment and the need to undertake work has been sensibly achieved.

To progress the work, and complete the investment in the water mains infrastructure in the Ombersley area, I have now requested that our project engineers commence further engagement with the Highway Authority, but also the relevant parish councils and the local community in general to agree the least disruptive and safe way we can plan this work for 2010.

I hope you will appreciate that I have deferred this work to give all parties, including the local community, adequate time to enable us to co-operate, plan and carry out the required works and secure a continuous high quality supply of water to the area for the future.

Yours sincerely

RESULT! For Holt Bridge Closure

It is clear from the HaveYourSay website that customers living in or close to the Ombersley/Doverdale areas are aware of planned water mains replacement work that is due to start this summer. This work is necessary to enable us to secure long term water quality and supply security for our customers in this area.

We are aware that recent notification of traffic restrictions related to the work have caused some local concerns and this was clearly expressed at a recent public consultation meeting held on 23rd April at Ombersley Memorial Hall during which time our design and build contractor's proposals were outlined.

Although we have been in consultation with various local parties and the Local Highway Authority for some time, and following on from the public consultation meeting, we now believe that the proposals communicated have not sufficiently taken into account both the need to carry out the works safely with the need to minimise disruption to traffic and the local environment.

As a result, we have now temporarily suspended the scheme, to allow a rigorous re-evaluation of those elements of the project that involve traffic disruption. We will carefully consider what other options may be possible and practicable to allow us to carry out the work safely whilst reducing, as far as possible and practicable, the impact upon road users and the local community.

We are starting this re-evaluation now and will contact customers in the area again before the end of May 2009 with the results. Our intention is to move forward with a plan that better reflects the needs of the local community. We recognise that we will not be able to please everyone but we are committed to responding, as far as possible, to the concerns that have been raised.

Yours sincerely

Beggars on Bikes?

Anyone interested in forming "Martley's Mad Beggars on Bikes"? In an attempt to get a bit fitter I've got my old bike out of the garage, pumped up the tyres & taken to cycling the lanes of the area. Would anyone else be interested in doing the same? It would be strictly for fun, not competitive and serious cyclists wearing lycra or men with shaved legs would be banned! If anyone is interested send me an email to rbarlow@cofe-worcester.org.uk
