Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions and Severn Trent will be holding a Public meeting to discuss the ongoing water mains replacement works in Ombersley and, in particular, Holt Fleet Road.
The work will entail putting a road closure in place on Holt Fleet Road for a 10 week duration. It is extremely important that your views are taken into account before any work takes place.Your feedback is valuable to us and we hope to see you there.
Meeting will take place at the CHANTRY HIGH SCHOOL in MARTLEY on TUESDAY 12th MAY at 6.30pm.
Road Closure - Holt Bridge to Ombersley Rounabout.
A meeting was held in Ombersley on the 23rd, led by Derek Prodger, for Severn Trent/Balfour Beatty and Halcrow to inform the public of the plans for closure and programme of works..
Village hall stuffed to capacity and many irate residents voicing their views to deaf ears. The road will be closed from the 22nd June for about 10 weeks. They are doing their usual british roadworks scenario by working on the road to the river, road beyond towards Droitwich, road past Checketts and road towards Kidderminster, centering on the roundabout, all at the same time! Consequently there will be massive disruption everywhere, and I doubt they will have people working on all four legs all the time. Obvious suggstion that why not complete one leg at a time before disrupting the next, fell on deaf ears too.
The road to the river will be ‘open to residents’ and emergency services – and will be closed for 500 mt lengths at a time, to allow residents to access. They are looking at some sort of residents pass for locals, but how will they police that in the middle of the night? However, the entire road will be closed for through traffic for ‘safety’ reasons – and although suggested, doubt if they will entertain opening at night or weekends while they are not working. They say they are working in 12 hour shifts, but not longer, and not on Sundays. We tried to suggest that they work 24 hours and on Sundays, which would effectively cut the closure time in half, but they would not entertain that idea.
Their local publicity so far has been appalling, and although it was suggested to announce the closure and disruptions on the radio/local papers/parish mags/etc; I expect the minimum will happen, if at all.
These are big companies, used to these sort of things, and hold these meetings for diplomatic reasons. I very much doubt they will take any suggestions on board.
Alternative routes will be via Stourport or Bewdley, or Worcester centre or Worcester south bridges.
Holt bridge is now limited to 7.5tonnes.
As it is listed, etc. etc. powers that be will spend a year deciding what to do, and then shut the bridge for about 12 months while they do it, which will probably be in about a years time.
Alwyn is arranging a meeting probably in Hallow in the near future to repeat the meeting for residents on the west side of the bridge.

Last evening Tues 7th April there were thefts in Little Witley. Around 2.00 am, there was someone with an Irish accent in somebodys garden. He was looking for a lost dog!!!
Quad bikes, chain saws, & cement mixers were on the "Thieving List". Please make sure everything in the garden is locked up & keep vigilant. Always report thefts to the police & let your local Neighbourhood watch person know.
Lets keep crime down in Martley!!!
It would appear that one local dog owner has little regard for proper fencing.
The footpath that leads from Berrow Green Road at the Village Hall up to the Nubbins is a popular route.
However, probably on Sunday April 5th., a wire fence by the side of a stile was bent back and left damaged, presumably by someone walking a dog who wishes to avoid the problem of their dog crossing the stile.
We wish to advise that this is criminal damage, and lacking in common sense, as one of the fields is used for stock animals.
The Parish Council wishes to advise that if it is discovered who is damaging the fence (this is not the first time) then we shall support the landowner taking appropriate action.
Don't say you were not warned
Cllr David Cropp
Chairman Martley Parish Council
Well, for a number of local residents who think that speeding in Martley is acceptable, you can't say you were not warned.
Recent police speedchecks on Martley Hillside revealed local drivers speeding, two notable and uncaring drivers travelling at 56mph and one so fast the gun couldnt register it.
All the drivers stopped received a police warning.
The Parish Council will be liaising to ensure that the police return, and that this time prosecutions will be the result.
Also be advised that the speedtrap may be anywhere in the hotspot list we submitted, and that we will be continuing our campaign against speeding.
If you are a) local b) a driver then it follows c) that you should care about the safety of the community of Martley
