Family ancestry: Tombs & Davies

Thank you so much for all your help. I shall certainly visit the house when I come up next month, and will phone Tony later on this afternoon with info as to where I am staying and maybe a meet-up. Wish I had 48 hours in my day just now, I seem to need it. BOREDOM????? What is that?

See you all soon I hope
Best Regards
Ruth

Family ancestry: Tombs & Davies

I am trying to trace my family Ancestry, and have come quite a long way so far. The photograph I attach is of my Gt. Grandmother's house Eliza Tombs (nee POWELL) of Leigh. Midwife Davies.JPG
There is a board on the house quoting Nurse Davies Midwife,
(she was originally Clara Alice TOMBS) which makes me think my Grandparents CLARA and WILLIAM THOMAS DAVIES, could have lived there at some time. I do believe my father was born there in 1902 - GILBERT CHARLES DAVIES was his name. My Grandparents eventually moved to Fairview, Willow Lane, Martley. This house was converted from a small chapel I believe. I have the receipt here for the cost of the conversion.

My brother tells me the pictured house is very near The Admiral Rodney. The trough outside the house was where my father's donkey - and eventually his pony used to drink. By what he tells me he spent more time with his Grandmother Eliza than he did with his own mother - Babies seemed to be quite prolific in those days keeping my grandmother busy.

As I am coming up to Leigh, Bransford, Martley etc. at the end of August any help would be so much appreciated,
Thankyou in advance.

Village of the Year

You will be delighted to hear that, while we did not win the Village of the Year as a whole, we won Worcestershire ICT Village of the Year for 2005.

This means that we will go on to the Regional and National finals at the end of September.

As before, we have to make a written submission - limited exactly to pages/descriptions - to the University of Warwick.

Hopefuly with Martley MESH (MWM)we are well positioned to do ourselves credit.

Hill Family trace

I wondered if any readers can assist me. I am looking for information about the HILL family who came from Martley. My partner's grandfather was William Hill born in 1900. The only information to hand at present is -
Charles Hill was born in Martley 1858, in 1861 and 1871 he was living as a 'nurse child' in Martley with Thomas and Ann Martin. In 1878 Charles married Barbara Whitty and they had many children -
Charles (1879)
Annie - born 1881
Ellen born 1884
James born 1887 and killed in Belgium in 1914.
Alice born 1890
Frances born 1893
Edward born 1894
Emily born 1895
Mary born 1897
William born 1900.
William came to Coventry where the family all still reside, he had two sons, one who is my father in law and the singer Vince Hill who now lives in Surrey.
If anyone knows of these I would love to hear from them.
Yours
