Will there be a fatality on the B4204 (Worcester to Martley Road) before people slow down?
You certainly put your life in your hands when travelling this road, be it in a car or on foot – people fly past you at phenomenal speeds blatantly disregarding the speed restrictions and the layout of the road. People forget that you must continually adjust your speed so that you can stop within the distance that you can see to be clear. This doesn’t mean flat out around the corner and just hope that nothing is obstructing the road.
This is a matter that I feel very strongly about, not only am I a resident along this road but I also have children to take to the Martley Pre-School. I live only 300 yards from the school, but as the road is so dangerous and there is no footpath – I refuse to put my families life at risk by walking to the Pre-School and instead travel this short distance by car. The 30mph restriction approaching the school might as well not be there, in a period of ONE WEEK 5 cars had accidents on one corner which is within this limit – Why? – Well, we all know the answer to that one! It’s not big or clever to screech your tyres on the corners, people don’t think – hey that kid is cool – people look at you and think – PRATT.
So everyone, young or old, this road is not a racetrack, it could be one of your family or friends coming in the opposite direction or going for a walk. Start treating this road with some respect and slow down because the next accident might be a fatality and it might be YOU, or a member of your family, do you want to be responsible for possibly killing them?

Posted by: Richard J. at February 8, 2005 10:15 AMLiving as I do on the corner of the B4204 and the junction with the Great Witley Road I have been concerned about the speed of traffic and the volume of traffic in this area for the past 20 years and have witnessed several accidents.
On more than one occasion in the past we have had to go to the rescue of people who have been going too fast to corner at the bottom of Clifton Hill and have ended up through the Tan House hedge!
I would also like to draw attention to the fact that the number of large lorries using these roads appears to have increased.
