There was uproar at the PC meeting last night when parishioners asked the PC committee why The Crown developers had been allowed to dig up The Crown meadow after the planning permission granted had specifically safeguarded it?
The Chair replied that he and the Clerk to PC had approached the contractors last Friday and they produced a set of modified plans (but not stamped by MHDC), dated 7th August (a Saturday). These showed areas of The Crown meadow being used for the new car park. It was pointed out by Chair and Clerk to PC that areas had been dug up that were not even covered by the modified plans.
Councillor Williams interjected that she had not been informed about any modified plans.
It was agreed that this was a disgraceful way to treat the PC and local Councillor - what was the point of having a local democracy if the district council was able to change agreed plans and not consult them (in breach of their supposed adherence to "Best Practice")
Please make your views known to the Parish Council to help strengthen their hand when dealing with this matter.

Posted by webmaster at September 7, 2004 08:30 PMThe article does not overemphasis the anger and disappointment we feel as a Parish Council about this issue.
We believed in good faith that the first amendment we offered and agreed to did two things - it gave The Crown more carparking, but it also preserved the bulk (90%) of Crown Meadow.
Last Friday I called on the Clerk and we stopped the totally off-plan carve up of the Meadow.I am not convinced as to whether they had been told to ignore the plan, or just botched it up - either way a shambles. It was only after that we discovered the actions taken by an MHDC officer to pass an amended plan within one day without consultation and without reference to the original plans and comments - so much for consultation and open government..
I agree with all that's said in the above message. I do also question the community attitude of the new company, who have failed to reply to correspondence, and have gone on to seek an amendment.
We are of course going to take action against MHDC one way or another. I have issued a press- statement already to Berrows and I hope they will run with it this week.
We could do with help! - letters to papers, letters to MHDC, cold comment to the builders if you are walking past, letters to Banks'Brewery
- please support your Parish Council today.

Chair
I'm not clear what the issue is about?
Are you saying that MHDC have approved plans for the developers to extend the car park without the knowledge of either Barbara Williams &/or the PC?
or
Have they developed w/out any permission?
Posted by: Guy Mucklow at September 8, 2004 10:54 AMYes exactly that - a planning officer received the amendment and passed it without referral to anyone (technically they can do this on delegated powers - but it shows a remarkable turn of speed to do it this way in a day or so)

Posted by: Dave Cropp at September 8, 2004 11:14 AMTo your second point:
The action the developers took to cut right across Crown Meadow (you can see the damaged area with turf replace to the left) was outside all planning agreements, and was stopped by us on Friday last
Posted by: Dave Cropp at September 8, 2004 11:16 AMRe:- The Crown Paddock as I new it, new name Meadow
Can someone tell me, what is the sense in allowing the Crown to be turned into a large restaurant, hundred seats believe, and then stopping them from parking, I should think they will want at least a park for fifty cars, and I expect people will use it when the restaurant is closed, or there are only a few cars parked there. Perhaps if the Crown had been used as it was 40yrs ago it would not have had to be altered. P.H.D.
Peter,
The design we agreed still gave them that kind of parking, but let's not kid ourselves that suddenly every night 100 people will be dining there at one time.
Its very easy to get rid of green spaces and much harder to ever get them back
What changed The Crown were less than friendly owners. We used to play quiz matches there, have harvest suppers - then suddenly the new owner decided to bring out his pool team and tables-
no local events thank you.
David,
Please realise that the remarks I make are not all mine, but as I have the facilities to make these remarks, there are people who will not go to council meetings or put pen to paper, these remarks are on there behalf.
Re:- Car park, is it not possible to make a condition that if say after two yrs, that if the park is not being used, it could be put back to its original state. Or could there not be an understanding that this new park, could be used by, such as the post office, the shop customers, the Ramblers that park at the church, or teachers from the school who also used to use the church parking, or the garage, I believe that all these people have at one time or another, used the Crown park, I think, at one time, they even had to be ask to refrain from using the park. Anything is better than parking on the verge, this has happened from time to time, even now people park in front of the pub, the village hall has been known to park all the way along the road on the verges, at the last show, there was space cautioned of at the village hall, reserved for some reason, thus lessening the space at the hall, as regards to anything happening over night, have you been to the Royal Oak at Broadwas lately? I was there about a year ago, if there were 20 people there, that was about it, I was taken there about three weeks ago, we sat by a window, and in the hour that we sat there, there must have been at least a car a minuet arriving, so it is possible to fill a car park, it all depends on the service.
With regards to the green spaces, there were people who did not want the recent housing sites to be built, some people thought that the Red House (the old workhouse) should have been renovated, but this did not happen, unlike a car park this will never be green again.
Is it democracy or is it the loudest wins, just take the lorry drivers protest, was that democracy, it is the same as the telephone masts, the easiest way to do away with them is to throw away the mobile phones, the same as the speed cameras, all they have to do is keep within the law. The hunt is another sample of loudest wins, if we had a proper vote, and not newspapers, I wonder. Regards,Peter.
Unfortunately it was Banks's shortsightedness which has caused this mess in regards to planning and the fact the village no longer has its local, as for the last six months it was open under temporary management it worked well and trade grew, with more time the village could well have been provided with a great centre for the comunity, for fundraising events and a general meeting place. As for the way PC has been treated by MHDC it discusting, and I would have thought Evertons would have stepped more carefully aswell considering there plans were generally unwanted.
