Village Halls often reflect the life and times of their villages.Drawn from its minutes and records, the Hall in Martley marks the passage of time in the same way.

The first Martley Village Memorial Hall was an ex-army hut purchased by the British Legion with donations from the residents of Martley in 1021. The hut was transported from Shrewsbury barracks by Mr Cyril Holiday and erected by Mr Harry Lane on land donated by the rev. James Hastings and the Ecclesiastical Commisioners, by a conveyance dated 16th August 1921.

The first trustees were:

The control and management of the "Hut" was by an elected Management Committee of the Working Men's Club on November 8th 1921, chaired by Colonel Carr. "The Hut"- in effect Martley's Hall - was officially opened by General Rion Philip Benson of the Royal Army Corps on February 5th 1922. The master of ceremonies was Colonel Carr. The building itself had cost £412.18s.2d. The building consisted of two rooms; one was used for public and private functions, the other housed two billiard tables. One of the tables , originally on loan, was eventually made a gift subject to the Club not registering to sell intoxicating liquour. The surviving donors of the table waived the rule in 1951!
