AWARD WINNING MARTLEY WEB MESH
The Martley Website team are pleased to announce that the new community locally based and maintained MARTLEY WEB MESH high speed Broadband Internet has been operational for some time. The service allows businesses and families in Martley and surrounding areas to enjoy the advantages of a reasonably economical high speed Internet connection.
Those households who are not able, due to poor telephone lines, or other circumstances, such as being located some distance from a telephone exchange, will be able (subject to a satisfactory survey) to access and surf the World Wide Web with all the benefits that will bring. Wherever you live in the parish (there are a few technical limitations which we are overcoming) the Martley Web Mesh team will provide the service. This is a local neighbourhood scheme and once you join you will become a member of the cooperative community mesh group. Don’t worry, you won't be expected to know how it works!
By providing this innovative wireless mesh system we are able to extend our coverage throughout the parish. Where the Martley Web Mesh system differs and overcomes problems is by providing a nucleus of access points in well sited locations with other members of the group able to link into the network via these access points. In this manner a mesh system can be built up where we are endeavoring to cover not only Martley village, but the surrounding areas as well. It may take a little time to build up the access network but the principle has been tried and tested and has proved to be a very successful community based project. As far as we are aware, Martley will be the very first group in the county with this innovative idea.
Martley Website team have been running and introducing customers to the mesh system for some months now and it has proved both successful and reliable. We now invite everyone in the local community to join the team. Now established we are providing extra facilities. We have three high speed lines feeding the mesh providing redundancy and extra capacity and have also introduced a local e-mail address for all family members of the Martley Web Mesh group. This is in the form of your.name@martley.org. Other proposals included a local electronic help line, a local chat group, free high speed e-mail and surfing connections in Martley Village Hall Library, Neighbourhood Watch warning facilities, and many others.
Providing your computer is reasonably modern then the Martley Web Mesh team can provide all the necessary equipment and expertise for you to participate in the scheme. Sound and impartial advice is available locally so if you are not sure whether your computer is suitable for the new high speed broadband Martley Web Mesh Internet access, just ask. We are more than happy to give free advice, help and encouragement. This is a cooperative scheme for local people, organised by local people and maintained and serviced by local people.
